Shots from the 2009 Gateway Classic are up on the site.
Lighting wasn’t too bad, though I had to shoot at 1600 and the banners behind the competitors fouled up the white balance again. I also made a boneheaded mistake; I left the autofocus set to “all points” from my last use of the camera instead of a single point, so in several of the shots the autofocus was zeroing either the banner ads on stage (bad but salvageable) or the top of one of the judges’ heads (very very bad).
I really want to push myself so that even in rough lighting conditions I’m keeping more shots than I’m throwing away. I’m not there yet.
Anyway, enjoy. The next show I’m attending is late June, but I hope to have some updates before then. Why “hope”, you say? Well, if anyone didn’t know, I’m getting married (!) next week, which fact may limit the amount of attention I can give this for a month or so.
Shots from the 2008 Greater Gainesville are up on the site.
I can’t thank promoter Brian Elliot enough for the amazing job he’s done resurrecting bodybuilding here in my hometown. Probably 90 percent of the competitors were going on stage for their first competition, and that’s always a promising sign. The show was amazingly well-lit, and ran as smoothly as any I’ve seen.
Everyone had an enjoyable time and I’m already looking forward to the show next year.
Next shows to go up: the 2008 All Forces and the 2008 All South.
(BTW, carelessly erasing the flurry of “Vote for Me!” ads from the latest political carnival, I accidentally deleted a phone call from one of the competitors asking about shots from the Gainesville. Please shoot me an email, thanks.)
Shots from the 2008 Southeastern USA are up on the site. Hey, only 8 days out this time. ;)
The lighting at this show was excellent, and I think the shots reflect that.
I had taken the “new” motorcycle (it’s a 1995 BMW R100 airhead that I absolutely love) down for its first real road trip and so was a little jounced around by the time I arrived.
But the show went well, and I managed to take care of all my other chores while I was down there too– even managed to take in most of the Gators giving LSU all they could handle, and on a 42 inch plasma screen too. All in all, a good trip.
Next up: the first annual Greater Gainesville, and can it be possible that the lighting here was even better than the Southeastern? All this and my first take on Bibble Pro. Stay tuned.
My, it was certainly wonderful to take in hours and hours of exaggerated rivalry theories, broken and questionable sports analogies, repeated redundant commercial noise, irrelevant sideline “insights”, and fancy computer-generated eye-candy on Game Day yesterday.
The actual football game also made for an interesting sidelight.
… what would the naming convention be if two named storms collided and merged?
Not saying that will happen, but Hanna *is* sashaying around aimlessly and Ike is headed full steam westward.
Hannike?
Ikena?
Hike?
Oops?
fay 2008
Keep an eye on Deke’s site for any news about the show. As far as I know it’s still on.
As a brief aside, I wonder if it would be a good idea to give categories to tropical storms as well as hurricanes.
Fay has been a well-structured, well-fed, and very wet storm with winds consistently over 60 mph. That’s just not too far from hurricane strength and is deserving of more respect than, say, a 35-mph storm that has weak feeder bands, bad outflow, and an ill-defined center.
Fay would be, say, a “category 3 tropical storm” on a scale of one to three… “don’t panic, but take it seriously.”
