Bodybuilding, Florida, life, and beyond

I had a McDonaldland flashback inspired by a DVD set of “H.R. Pufnstuf” that I saw in our local department store.

Through the lens of retrospect I now know that this was simply the ’70s telling the ’60s that while it would always cherish the memories they had together, it was time to fold up the sofa and leave.

$DIETY only knows how the next generation will rationalize away “Teletubbies”.

Dexter Jackson 2011 FBB competitor
Shots from the 2011 Dexter Jackson Classic, held August 6 in Jacksonville, are up on the site.

I’m quite pleased with the color balance. The UNF theater used to be a pit but they’ve clearly upgraded their lighting.

This was a much smaller show than I expected; though the quality of the competitors was outstanding, I have to wonder if the bikini slash “physique” elements are drawing potential competitors out of the bodybuilding classes. Or it could just be the recession. Time will tell.

Next up: the Greater Gainesville! No travel required, woo-hoo!

Citrus Cup 2011 female bodybuilding competitor
Shots from the 2011 Citrus Cup, held July 30 in Kissimmee, are up on the site.

Back after a hiatus of a decade or so, the Citrus Cup was held in the old Tupperware Center in Kissimmee. I was amazed at how the area has grown– there was a time when Tupperware and Gatorland were isolated in the swampland.

The show suffered just a few opening-day bugs, most notably the plodding ticketing system that left a hundred or so people in line with the show ready to start. However the level of competition was outstanding and overall the show went well.

You can’t hate someone you don’t care about.

Mid Florida Classic 2011 figure competitor
Shots from the 2011 Mid-Florida Muscle Classic are up on the site.

The morning drive down 17 was absolutely magnificent and I plan to do a “photo safari” on that road one day soon.

The show shots came out slightly darker than I like but still acceptable. Enjoy.

Okay, this is being made ‘way harder than it needs to be.

Here’s the new plan.  Adjust the numbers appropriately but you can see the model.

  • The first $20,000 of income is exempt from federal income tax.
  • Anything above $20,000 is taxed at 15%.
  • There are no exemptions for any reason.

Have I missed anything?

I got a cat for my birthday– long story–  and my beloved grudgingly conceded to me the naming rights.

My first thought was to call the cat “Shakey” because she was shivering after her alcohol bath, and there was also pizza on the way.  Synchronicity, right?

My wife disapproved.  I suggested that “Shakey” was short for “Shakira”, and that was an appropriate name because she’s wobbly and appears friendly but really just whines a lot  (the cat, not my wife). Still kiboshed.

I then suggested “Nibbler“, after the Futurama critter, and “Niblet“, a rather obscure South Park reference. No go.

So right now I’m hovering around “Pixel“, a blatant Heinlein homage, but  I’m still hoping to come up with something a little better.

Update: This cat has tiny little front paws, about the size of my thumb.  I was holding her and stroking her back and she started “making biscuits” on my arm… so it’s likely that her name will be Biscuit.

Wife is kicking the tires but tentatively agrees… :)
