Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), for his inspiring quote,

“They are just helping us understand the fringe that is trying to mess up our meetings.”

And you thought black holes were dense.

I’ve decided I want to buy a Dachshund.

I’ve always wanted to get a long little doggie.

Fed up

Jul 28

A recent Gallup poll showed that Americans have less faith in the Fed than in the IRS, the EPA, and $_DEITY help us, the CDC.

This shows how badly informed most Americans are (at least the ones that respond to Gallup polls). Why?

If you look back at the recent history of the Fed, the Chairman has been sounding the alarm the whole time. Bernanke (and before him, Greenspan) testified before Congress predicting the oil crisis, the housing bubble, and most especially runaway consumer lending, with great accuracy, deep understanding, and in plenty of time to correct the issues.

Blame for the ensuing economic catastrophes rests squarely on the shoulders of the Democrat leaders who, in the face of the dire warnings, pushed forward their destructive agendae anyway.

What cruel villain put a hard “s” in the word “lisp”?

A note left by a prankster on a pile of clothes:

    Darling,

Good news! The Rapture is real. Think you’re due in on the red-eye; get on your flooziest duds and head down to the Congressman’s house. Should be a giggle when he tries to explain to his wife.

P.S. Universe doesn’t work at *all* like we thought; Mike Seaver is here, Kirk Cameron isn’t. Go figure.

Regina Spektor has been compared to former Beatle Paul McCartney.

Without taking anything away from her, I don’t think that analogy quite works. Paul McCartney wrote mainstream pop, and commercial interests defined success in that arena. She just seems to be having a lot of fun with her talent, and it shows, and it works.

If asked make a comparison, I’d offer that Regina is more of a cross between Paul Simon and the brilliant and talented Tom Lehrer (he who sang the Periodic Table of the Elements to the tune of “A Modern Major General”).

Jeff Lynne‘s contributions to “Far” are restrained– ELOphiles will recognize the signatures, but will have to listen for them. No one song stands out as “Oh, that was produced by that ELO guy”. Rather, all the songs blend together as an understated whole.

And again, it works.

It’s hard to distinguish enthusiasm from determination.
