Shots from the 2011 Dexter Jackson Classic, held August 6 in Jacksonville, are up on the site.

I’m quite pleased with the color balance. The UNF theater used to be a pit but they’ve clearly upgraded their lighting.

This was a much smaller show than I expected; though the quality of the competitors was outstanding, I have to wonder if the bikini slash “physique” elements are drawing potential competitors out of the bodybuilding classes. Or it could just be the recession. Time will tell.

Next up: the Greater Gainesville! No travel required, woo-hoo!

Shots from the 2011 Citrus Cup, held July 30 in Kissimmee, are up on the site.

Back after a hiatus of a decade or so, the Citrus Cup was held in the old Tupperware Center in Kissimmee. I was amazed at how the area has grown– there was a time when Tupperware and Gatorland were isolated in the swampland.

The show suffered just a few opening-day bugs, most notably the plodding ticketing system that left a hundred or so people in line with the show ready to start. However the level of competition was outstanding and overall the show went well.

Tentative 2011 Florida NPC schedule up

Information about 2011 Florida NPC contest schedule is up on the site.

I can’t stress enough how tentative, unofficial, and unapproved this information is as of this moment.

It is the first-working-draft from the 2010 promoter’s meeting and *there will be changes*. Venue schedules must be worked out. Unexpected conflicts will arise. Sanction fees must be paid.

This is a broad picture intended to help with planning purposes only. The Florida NPC Web site, floridanpc.org, is the *only* official source for Florida NPC show information.

2010 All-South shots up

Shots from the 2010 All South, held November 6 in St Augustine, FL, have been added to the site.

Post-processing was slowed somewhat due to what I shall graciously call “pre-planned wardrobe malfunctions” in the Bikini class. Predictable in retrospect, such inappropriate displays are an issue that will need to be addressed as soon as possible.

That aside, though, Gene and Pete put on yet another spectacular show. The level of competition was superb, the venue is outstanding, and the audience was enthusiastic.

That wraps up the 2010 season for me. According to Deke, the annual meeting has been moved to the Holiday Inn near Universal due to a scheduling conflict at the Rosen. With luck I’ll have a sneak peek at the 2011 schedule up shortly thereafter.

2010 Atlantic Coast

Shots from the 2010 Atlantic Coast, held October 30 in Melbourne, FL, are being added to the site.

The venue featured the funky LED lighting again, but there was some small amount of natural light as well, and with a quick custom white balance check (thanks Deb) the shots actually didn’t turn out that badly.

I also got a few more quick snaps of Iris Davis– nothing like the last shoot, mind you, but very nice nevertheless.

Atlantic Coast show has new venue

I’d heard rumblings about a new venue and was checking both the Florida NPC and the promoter’s sites pretty much daily. Today, two days before the show, I found that the site has indeed been updated and the venue moved.

The new venue is the Radisson Resort at the Port, located at 8701 Astronaut Blvd. in Cape Canaveral. Spread the word.

I apologize for the delay– I have been quite insanely busy, and the shots themselves required some TLC because the show’s experiment in pure-LED stage lighting, while well-intentioned, turned out badly.
