Bodybuilding, Florida, life, and beyond

I got a cat for my birthday– long story–  and my beloved grudgingly conceded to me the naming rights.

My first thought was to call the cat “Shakey” because she was shivering after her alcohol bath, and there was also pizza on the way.  Synchronicity, right?

My wife disapproved.  I suggested that “Shakey” was short for “Shakira”, and that was an appropriate name because she’s wobbly and appears friendly but really just whines a lot  (the cat, not my wife). Still kiboshed.

I then suggested “Nibbler“, after the Futurama critter, and “Niblet“, a rather obscure South Park reference. No go.

So right now I’m hovering around “Pixel“, a blatant Heinlein homage, but  I’m still hoping to come up with something a little better.

Update: This cat has tiny little front paws, about the size of my thumb.  I was holding her and stroking her back and she started “making biscuits” on my arm… so it’s likely that her name will be Biscuit.

Wife is kicking the tires but tentatively agrees… :)

This was a nice, big show. I did think that in some classes there were too many competitors being judged at once. Not that I’m suggesting the outcome was affected, because I’m not. Just kind of hectic onstage, hence more of the “group shots” rather than all individual as usual. Enjoy.

2011 Central District FBB competitor
I know everyone has appreciated my restraint during the Anthony Weiner crisis, but I’ve had plenty to keep me occupied. Shots from the 2011 Central District are up on the site.

Orlando Metro 2011 figure competitor
Shots from the 2011 Orlando Metro are up on the site.

This isn’t my best work; the light-colored background at Lyman got me again, leaving many of the competitors looking over-contrasted, though the shots look wonderful in the camera’s preview panel. Need to get there super-early one time and experiment– probably just need to use a counterintuitive metering mode.

For a debut show the Orlando Metro ran like a top. High point of the prejudging was head judge Pete Fancher calling out a “helpful” audience member who had yelled “Open it up!” to his figure-competitor protege’.

“Do not ‘open it up’,” Pete responded. “We’re holding a seminar called, ‘What the Judges are Looking For’, you might want to attend that.”

Priceless!  And overdue.  (Pete was serious, too, by the way.)

O Lord please acknowledge my prayer, I entreat
My impetus couldn’t be clearer
Today help me suffer the fools I will meet
And start with that yutz in the mirror.

No one with a mortgage will willingly speak truth to power.

I’m liking this aerial view and plan to search out similar opportunities.

While the Bikini class did have competitors who were notably more athletic than in months past, this was the first show I’ve attended in a long time with no female bodybuilders at all.

I think Jacksonville has enough population to turn out a better showing than that.
