Bodybuilding, Florida, life, and beyond

Andrea, maybeThe no-name, non-tropical storm currently spinning off the Jacksonville coast has been driving the detritus of fires in the area down our way with gale force.

Impressively visible on the satellite, conditions here were terrible yesterday, with smoke masking the sun and covering everything like a thick yellow fog.

Ash fell like snowflakes, landing on any horizontal surface, getting in your eyes and lungs.

At one point I though the sun would never shine out of this ash hole again.

Shots from the 2007 Gateway Classic are up on the site.

The overlap between that show and the concurrent local Lake City show was somewhat blurry, as was I, so I didn’t bother trying to sort it out. Everyone in each class got shots on the site.

Good news, everyone! Scientists at the ESO have discovered an new planet.

The planet, called Gliese 581 c, is Earth-like in nature, may actually be capable of sustaining human life, and is only 20.5 light-years away.

At least that was the situation in 1986– 20.5 years ago.

:)

I buy a lot of things with a credit card. Not to specify which one, but it rhymes with “Whisk Lover”.

The annual interest rate on the card is 25%.

Can you imagine that? Even mobsters would be embarrassed.

You might be taking up to this point that I’m upset by this. On the contrary, it’s the biggest favor they could have done for me.

Why? Simple. It makes me clear my balance every month. If I ever have *any* urge to carry a balance over, it’s immediately squashed by the haunting, fiery “25% interest!” that hangs in midair whenever I’m writing the check.

I’m sure bean-counters at the card company fought long and hard to get the interest rate up to where it is.

Wonder when they’ll realize how it might end up *costing* the company money?

Over the weekend I got about sixty emails.

About fifty-five were spam.

The spam filters caught them *all*, and they went into /dev/null unopened. Ker-flush.

Kudos to the filter writers. They seem to be getting better and better.

And pox on the spammers. When will you parasites learn that you’re wasting everyone’s time and effort for practically no gain?

It’s pretty amazing, to walk past the Swamp on the way to a baseball game or on the way to lunch, and think that you’re standing by the home of the best football team in the whole country, all the way up to Maine, out to California and Washington State (and beyond!)

It’s even more amazing to turn on your heel and realize you’re also standing next to the home of one of the greatest college basketball teams in history. Teamwork and unselfishness, sportsmanship and skill, the likes of which we have never seen before.

Congratulations to the Gators for planting one more flag on the hill. Thank you, Ohio State, for playing a great game.

Apparently the current “controversy” revolves around whether a politician may have fired a handful of political appointees for reasons that may have been political.

Is this really the most important thing we have to worry about in the world right now?

Bush himself said it best: “You know you’ve botched it when people sympathize with lawyers.”
