{"id":127,"date":"2006-12-28T06:48:45","date_gmt":"2006-12-28T13:48:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lucas-photo.com\/blog\/?p=127"},"modified":"2007-01-14T19:25:50","modified_gmt":"2007-01-15T02:25:50","slug":"holy-schtick-medicine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lucas-photo.com\/blog\/2006\/12\/28\/holy-schtick-medicine\/","title":{"rendered":"Holy schtick medicine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One aspect of trying to grasp the Eternal Verities is tricky enough to knock the old <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/uk_news\/england\/nottinghamshire\/5019682.stm\"  target=\"_blank\">&#8220;chicken-and-egg&#8221;<\/a> problem into a cocked hat.  <\/p>\n<p>For obvious reasons,  it would be helpful, if not critical, to have a professional understanding of the mind, the tool we use to perceive (or navigate, or create) what we call Reality.<\/p>\n<p>But how can one gain that understanding <em>within<\/em> the framework of what you&#8217;re trying to understand&#8211; discerning whether the process is intruding on the results?  It&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Uncertainty_principle\" target=\"_blank\">Heisenberg<\/a> writ large.<\/p>\n<p>One possibility that I&#8217;m exploring is a sort of &#8220;perceptive <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gestalt_effect\" target=\"_blank\"><em>gestalt<\/em><\/a>&#8220;&#8211; a continual imagining of the impact my thoughts and actions have on the people and environment near me, the creation of a handful of <em>gestalts<\/em> of my own <em>gestalt<\/em> from &#8220;outside the bubble&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>This has proven to have a tendency for feedback overload, but each time  I restart the process, I seem to be able to maintain the perception stream a bit longer, and to extend the perceptive distance &#8220;outside the bubble&#8221;  a bit further.   <\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m hopeful that I will be able to continue to develop this skill, to the point that it provides some valuable insight.<\/p>\n<p>[pause]<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t know what you&#8217;re going to do with this information, but you have it now.&#8221; &#8212; Shelley Berman<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One aspect of trying to grasp the Eternal Verities is tricky enough to knock the old &#8220;chicken-and-egg&#8221; problem into a cocked hat.
