Now I’m the first to admit that I don’t know from world affairs. My perspective and information is more local.<\/p>\n

But to sum up the situation in Iran that’s (allegedly) driving gas prices even higher, the key facts are these:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Iran wants to develop nuclear technology and the ability to enrich uranium, ostensibly to provide themselves with energy, and<\/li>\n
  2. we trust Iran about as far as one could fling a reasonably tolerant badger.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    So here’s my idea. <\/p>\n

    We offer to build and operate the nuclear power plants, and refine and transport the nuclear materials ourselves<\/strong>, in exchange for oil, which Iran has aplenty.<\/p>\n

    If they decline, they’ve lost credibility with the court of public opinion, which frees us to deal more sternly with the issue.<\/p>\n

    If they agree, we get:<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. some assurance that their intentions are good, <\/li>\n
    2. oil, which we need,<\/li>\n
    3. control over the disputed substances, and<\/li>\n
    4. more stabilizing presence in the region, meaning we can take a step back from being the world’s policeman.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Iran gets<\/p>\n

        \n
      1. the energy they claim to seek, <\/li>\n
      2. credibility and goodwill,<\/li>\n
      3. increased stability, and<\/li>\n
      4. no responsibility for the hazardous materials.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Sounds to me like everyone wins.<\/p>\n
