Well, our brilliant commissioners have done it again: they’ve decided to narrow Main Street (already clogged with traffic) from four lanes to two, ostensibly to bring more people downtown.

What I think they should do next is cut our taxes in half. By their logic, that should increase the amount of money they receive.

After three decades we’re still no closer to adopting the metric system.

But when you think about it, isn’t any system of weights and measures a “metric system”?

I would support legislation making it a second-degree misdemeanor to use the word “Spooktacular” during the month of October.

If you’re going to the Southeastern contest tomorrow and aren’t familiar with the venue location, here is something to watch out for. I fell for this last year: the online maps show the address of Lyman High School about 3/4 of a mile north of 434.

It’s not.

It’s about 3/4 of a mile south of 434, on the east side of the road.

Hope this doesn’t cause too many problems.

I’ve become most annoyed with the “scooters” that are clogging up the precious few spaces in the local motorcycle lot.

“Wait,” you say. “What’s the difference between a scooter and a motorcycle? They both have two wheels, a motor, and can be driven in local traffic.”

A valid point, and a distinction needs to be made.

If a vehicle is parked in the motorcycle lot, and I can pick it up and lever it nose-first into the concrete garbage can to make room for me, it’s apparently a scooter.

Shots from the 2006 Lakeland competition are up on the site.

The show was held at Florida Southern College, which was architected by Frank Lloyd Wright. I did get some shots of the outside with figure competitors Wendy and Teresa, and I’ll get them up as soon as I can (I am terribly backlogged).

I could spend a week in that place capturing light and never be bored.
